You’ve found the love of your life, and now you want to get married. It’s a happy day, but how do you find the best wedding photographer in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio or any other city in Texas? It might seem like an easy task at first glance, but as soon as you start searching around, it becomes clear that there are many factors to consider when choosing the right wedding photographer to document your big day. Here are some things to think about before making your final decision so that you can be sure you’re picking the right one!

Expertise: Make sure your photographer specializes in shooting weddings.

Most wedding photographers have a specific type of photography they prefer, be it families, seniors or children. Some even focus on commercial work and/or real estate photography. Select a photographer who knows what they’re doing with weddings.

Personality: Meet with potential photographers. Do you like their personality? Are they nice, fun, and easy to talk to?

Not only do you want to get along with your photographer on your wedding day, but it’s important that you’re getting along right now. You’ll be spending a lot of time with them during meetings and making sure they can capture all of your special moments on your big day, so make sure they seem like they would be fun to work with and have a good sense of humor.

Availability: Is this person available on your wedding day? Do they have backup photographers?

This is a very important question. You don’t want to arrive at your wedding to find out that your photographer isn’t there or doesn’t have a backup. Check their website or call them to ask about their work schedule and make sure they are available on your wedding day.

Testimonials & References: do they have google or facebook reviews that you can read?

Check their website to see if they are able to provide references. They may also have a portfolio on their website you can view. It's always a good idea to ask around town and your friends, family or co-workers who have been married before who they would recommend hiring as a wedding photographer. You can do an internet search of photographers in your area but make sure you check out their reviews on Google or Facebook first.

Do you absolutely love their work?

If a wedding photographer’s work speaks to you, by all means get excited. If a photographer has a certain style or aesthetic that really moves you, let them know! Look at their wall on instagram to get a good feel of the colors and tones that the photographer expresses.
